MATERIALS

Modified Bridge Joint

The Modified Bridge Joint is an asphaltic plug joint which is obtained by mixing distilled bitumen with polymer modifier and other particular fillers having stabilizing and protective function on the structure. The joint is able to handle expansion, contraction and dynamic loads and is able to absorb bridge deck movement up to 50mm.


Aggregate

The aggregate shall be a single size 20mm stone as defined in BS 63 (or 14mm where the depth of the joint is less than 75mm). The stones shall have the following properties :-

a) Aggregate Crush < 25
b) Aggregate Abrasion Value < 08
c) Polished Stone Value < 49


INSTALLATION

General

In the case of joint reinstatement work, the installation of the new joint shall commence only after the completion of the laying of the asphatic concrete surfacing. The expansion joint shall be installed by trained experienced workmen.
